About MidSouth Homestead Design

Our Beginnings

Frank C. Roberts, alongside his wife Virginia, embarked on a transformative journey from urban living to homesteading, establishing Maranatha Farms in Fisherville, TN. Inspired by documentaries like "Supersize Me" and "The Biggest Little Farm," they felt a deep longing for a simpler, slower-paced lifestyle. The pursuit of clean food and a desire for a more connected existence with their growing family further fueled their passion.

Guided at a distance by virtual mentors like Joel Salatin, Greg Judy, Stefan Sobkowiak, and Justin Rhodes, Frank and Virginia began their homestead journey in Midtown, Memphis, managing rabbits, a small garden, and periodic pig butchering. The limitations of their urban space led them to sell their house and acquire a new home with a 16 acre property in October 2019.  They have since grown the farmstead to managing nearly 50 acres.

In response to the challenges in the food supply system during March 2020, Frank witnessed a surge in interest from people wanting to embrace a simpler, more-sustainable lifestyle. In the midst of managing Maranatha Farms and Memphis Water Gardens, where he specializes in custom fountains and water features, Frank passionately shares his knowledge of homesteading and permaculture practices with the MidSouth community.

Armed with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Christian Brother's University, Frank's expertise extends to residential construction, heavy equipment operation, earthmoving, lake management, and landscape design. His commitment to sustainable living is evident not only in his own homestead but also in his role as the owner of MidSouth Homestead Design, aiming to empower others to lead healthier and simpler lives connected with the land. The Roberts also co-lead a house church, fostering simple community and shared faith in their home.
